TTS installs new facilities at Liege Logistics TTS has opened new warehouse facilities of more than 15 ha at Liege Logistics, the airport's freight centre. The haulier's new facilities can accommodate highly diverse merchandise from general cargo to chemical products and commodities, as well as specific package sorting and handling capacities. The TTS Group has made its mark in the European rail-road business and has grown fast. It now benefits from its new location in Liege: Surrounded by six highways, four railroad lines, an airport in close proximity and Europe's second largest river port. Dunlop Aviation Division opens workshop at Liege Airport Dunlop Aviation Services (DAS) has opened a new workshop at Liege Airport to support its existing sales office. DAS is the separately managed repair and maintenance operation of Dunlop Aviation Division, a member of the Dunlop Standard Aerospace Group, and a world leader in aircraft wheels/brakes and brake management systems. DAS Liege has been set up to improve access for customers throughout Europe and by this Autumn the Liege workshop will be fully open, providing a routine wheel and brake maintenance and AOG service on a 24 hour basis. According to Tony Baker, who heads up the Liege operation, "Liege is ideally placed for airports in Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and northern and eastern France and it is also convenient for customers in Eastern Europe. Most brakes and wheels needing attention are collected and delivered by road and Liege has excellent access by road and rail, which is why TNT chose the location as its European hub". Malysse establishes new logistics and laundry division in Liege Malysse S.A., part of the Malysse-Sterima Group, has purchased land in the Province of Liege for the establishment of a logistics and laundry plant. The new plant will contribute to a better and faster service for its clients in the Province of Liege. The Malysse Group comprises several companies whose products and services are aimed at medical care in hospitals, psychiatric clinics, homes for the elderly and home care. The Group uses the latest techniques and procedures for large-scale handling of hospital linen and produces and delivers sterile wound-dressing and operating theatre sets, as well as dialysis concentrates and medical devices. To meet the demands of just-in-time delivery, the Group has created a special Logistics Division to handle transport and the internal and external logistic services of its companies and clients, in particular hospitals. The new plant in Liege will specialise in both logistic services and the rental and laundering of linen for the health sector and is equipped with special automated washing and finishing machinery. One of the Group's key clients in Liege is the Sart Tilman University Hospital. Mr H. Bovy, Managing Director of this Hospital comments, "the Malysse-Sterima Group is very customer focused. Not only is it service-minded, but it believes in co-operating with clients like us in the research and development of new products". Cockerill Sambre opens brand new galvanisation facility The Cockerill Sambre Group has opened a brand new galvanisation line in Liege. Called Eurogal, the new line is devoted to steel work for the automotive industry and in particular galvanised "Z" sheet-irons which will form the visible parts, such as doors and bonnets, of future car bodies. Eurogal is equipped with the very latest technical features and the building's 20,000 square metre surface was designed by a team of aesthetics professionals. Eurogal is close to the other Cockerill Sambre sites and has the option of three means of transport for its products: Water, railway and road; just one of the advantages of being situated in Liege. Cockerill Sambre is an integrated steel group, selling products mainly on the European market. Its production units are located in Belgium and Germany, with affiliates in Belgium, France and Luxembourg. As a medium-sized steel company, the Group is dominant in worked up products with clients from the car industry and the domestic equipment sector. Alongside its integrated steel production, Cockerill Sambre distributes metal and plastic product, transforms steel for the construction industry and is also present in mechanics and industrial services. Cockerill Sambre has invested 4.5 billion BF in
the construction of Eurogal. The new state-of-the-art galvanisation plant
meets all the highest environmental and safety standards. For this purpose
Eurogal has the disposal of the latest techniques and procedures: The noise
standards, when operating the plant, are improved by soundproof walls and
silencers, the steam emission from the cleansing and chromatic baths is
absorbed and treated, and industrial effluent is transferred to the sewage
treatment plant of Flémalle, which is equipped with the latest biological
machinery. In addition, all areas are watertight, with retention basins
and recuperation cesspools. Special attention has also been paid to the
ergonomics of the workplaces in Eurogal. Control cabins are organised for
the benefit of the operators, with continuous data processing and video
screens with easy reach.
