Liege Airport: a magnet for high flyer distribution activities
Liege Airport is the place where goods are flowing. After taking off, it is now flying high. TNT’s $ 2 billion investment is taking shape in a brand-new and ultra-modern building. Not far from there, the Weerts carrier company is constructing warehouses in order to manage distribution activities for Continental, the German tire company. Besides these freight operations, Liege Airport also specializes in charter services. The Jet Air Co., a Belgian travel agency which arrived in Liege in 1994, has achieved one of its best results last year. Attracted by the good location of the airport as well as by low prices, customers come from Liege but also from Antwerp, Limbourg, Luxembourg and Germany.
$ 135 million investment: the Cockerill Sambre Group targets high added value manufacturing
The Belgian steel giant Cockerill Sambre is investing about $ 130 million in the construction of a brand-new hot dip line named Eurogal. This investment should bring the group to a top European position in galvanized steel. This high-tech manufacturing process helps to fight corrosion. An undisputable advantage since production is assigned to the European automotive industry (VAG, Ford, Renault, Opel, etc.). 220,000 tons will be produced yearly. Located near downtown Liege, Eurogal will benefit from all of the assets of existing facilities, particularly easy access by road, river and rail.
A further $ 5 million investment has been made in Disteel Cold Liege, another branch of the group.
These new financial means make the company’s intent evident. They are focusing on ultra-specialized and very high value added products.
A further $ 13.5 million investment in the food & beverage sector
In Liege something is always happening in the food & beverage sector. After the $ 23 million investment made by the Detry company, Chaudfontaine Bottling Co., together with BHA Dairy Co. are now principle actors on stage.
BHA is one of the world specialists in powdered milk. $ 2 million have been committed to enlarging and improving their facilities. Chaudfontaine is owned by Interbrew, the Belgian Bottling group. The latter have decided to invest roughly $ 11.5 million in this Liege subsidiary.
The EVS Co.: unique technology on worldwide screens
The EVS high-tech company, active in digital video recorder development, won a gold medal during the olympic games in Atlanta last year. They signed a contract with Panasonic and supplied a hardware tapeless video recorder unique in the world.
New offices have now been opened in Hong Kong. The SMB already deals with major customers in Asia. CCTV in China, KBS in Korea, RCTI in Malaysia and TVB in Hong Kong. This step will allow them to consolidate their current cooperations and to create others. In 1996 Evs opened an office in New York.
