Detry food company has invested $ 23 million to expand and upgrade facilities
$ 23 million have been invested by the Detry Group, dealing in pork butchery and delicatessen dishes, for the building of two ultra-modern workshops covering 2.75 acres. This increases their area which now covers 7.5 acres. State-of-the-art equipment has also been installed to upgrade automation systems as well as hygiene controls.
With a turnover of $ 500 million, Detry is one of the leading businesses in the Liege agro-food sector. Bringing together 12 companies, it supervises each stage of production, from pork-breeding to the final product. Top quality meat is processed on a large scale, using the latest technologies, yet keeping a craftmade character and meeting the finest requirements.
As another evidence of their uninterrupted quality research, the slaughterhouse meets both the EU and US most stringent standards. Even if the Group's first priority is to be a leader on the domestic market, they also export to the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and France.
A relay building geared to food-related activities yet to come
As the food sector is constantly developing in the Liege area, the Economic Development Agency , SPI+, has decided to set up a brand-new relay building, designed to house companies specialized in this field. Construction is due to start very soon and should be completed within this year. Arrangements have already been made for two workshops and adjacent offices to meet all the companies' needs: specific materials, easy access with loading/unloading docks, warehouse facilities, and so on.
New Guggenheim Museum: Liege high-tech is part of the team
The Liege-based Bocad Service International company (BSI) is participating in the designing of one of the greatest contemporary buildings: a new version of the Guggenheim Museum. Drawn up by Frank Gehry, America's most famous architect, it is now under construction in Bilbao, Spain. The exuberant and complex metallic structure, made up of lines, angles and curves, has been modelled with the help of BSI ultra-sophisticated 3D software. BSI's main product, Bocad-3D, is a designing program that facilitates the draughtsman's task by automatically and interactively producing the general plan and drawings of a steel structure.
Technical advances and an excellent reputation together with high guarantees and qualifications have led this SMB onto a worldwide market. More and more at the river port
Liege river port's tonage is again on the increase. The 1996 order book confirms their third position on the European market, Liege ranking ahead of Strasbourg and just behind Duisburg and Paris. Compared to 1995, a growth of 6.48% of tons handled has been achieved, mostly in construction materials (+18.98%), metallic products (+ 11.23%), petroleum (+9%) and ores (+3.62%).
