At the end of last year, the European Football Association published the results of the draw for the Euro 2000 Championship. In June 2000, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Romania and Yugoslavia will play matches in the Standard of Liege football stadium, which offers luxury spectator-boxes for businesses. The Euro 2000 madness has begun and hundreds of thousands of football fans are already looking forward to the matches in Liege. For the region, this event provides a unique opportunity to present its assets and we expect a marked increase in economic activities for the tourism sector and for enterprises.

At the same time as the draw, Mr Paul Bolland, Governor of the Province of Liege, officially launched the Euro 2000 Celebration. During the event, some 130 sports, cultural and socio-economic activities will be held in Liege. The sports activities have started with the ‘Adventure Sports Fair’ in March and will end with the ‘International Show Jumping of Liege’ in October. The cultural activities on the other hand, vary from the Picasso and “Men and Communication” exhibitions to the “Marriage of Figaro” spectacle and the Francofolie of Spa. These events will take place in the theatres of 41 municipalities in the Province of Liege.
