Liege from head to toe : issue 5
YOUR DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN LIEGE : RAPID AND EASY.
You are planning to distribute your products in Europe.
We propose an intermodal site interconnecting air, highway, railroad and
waterways traffic.
Call on third-party operators, build duty-free warehouses, move into existing
buildings, buy land on the intermodal platforms or in one of the business parks.
Be cost effective in Liege ... And move your goods around!
- Here we are, in the center of the European Union.
In Liege, you are close to the developed or emerging economic poles of the
Mediterranean, Eastern and Northern countries. Within a day, door-to-door
deliveries can reach any place in Europe in line with the schedule you require.
- You can benefit from developed infrastructures and value-added services
Linking communication networks to each other has been our objective for many
years. We want to make it easy to connect the West to the East and the South to
the North, in the shortest possible time. To fulfill this goal and to enhance
the existing infrastructures, we have set up a number of intermodal platforms :
- Air-highway-railroad :
Liege Logistics, a site located next to the airport, can be directly
connected to rail and highway networks, so you can count on
airport-to-destination and airport-to-airport traffic. It hosts a
specific training center geared to logistics as well as to a customs
office. Belgian and foreign transportation companies have also chosen
to locate within the airport business area, next to the
highway's intersection.
- Railroad-highway-waterways :
Connections between railroad, highway and waterways are made possible
on a connecting site which handles 15,000 containers a year and has a
135,000 sq. ft. storage plant. A marshalling yard allows immediate
transfer of goods from all Liege platforms to final destinations in
Europe.
- Railroad-highway :
A second connecting site of 117,000 square feet is located on the way
to Germany and the Netherlands. This manages daily rail communications
from and to Antwerp, Zeebrugge and Italy. It is also the link with
highway connections. A complete logistic program takes care of red tape
such as customs, invoicing and transportation procedures.
- Now, let us take a glance at what you can expect from Liege infrastructures.
- AIR : Full cargo priority
Liege airport is the first airport in Europe to give top priority to cargo
handling. This means low landing fees and time saving. Furthermore, most
airport facilities are brand new and land is available nearby at low costs.
All types of planes can land on the aprons and all airport activities are
permitted around the clock.
Although the airport is recent, it is already integrated into the
worldwide air cargo network. Several facts corroborate this statement.
It is on-line with the Cargo Community System (CCS), and two international
companies have just opened their European hub here :
- the hub of the company TNT Express Worlwide, the most advanced in
Europe, will serve daily 31 European cities as well as the U.S.
- the Israeli Cargo Air Lines will move 20,000 tons a year of
perishables from Israel to Liege and will take back 25,000 tons of
general freight.
Liege airport then offers all the advantages of novelty without suffering
anymore from the drawback of newness. Total transfer of goods from and to
the airport is forecast to amount to 300,000 tons a year.
- HIGHWAY : High density, no saturation
The highway communication network in the Liege area is not only dense :
the traffic always keeps moving, therefore reducing transportation time and
costs.
In less than a half-day trucking time you can reach the Ruhr region in
Germany, the Randstad Holland, Luxemburg, Frankfurt, Northern France as far
as Paris and Greater London. In one day you can be in Italy, Austria,
Scandinavia and in the Eastern European countries.
- RAILROAD : Load the train, dump your worries
Liege is located right in the middle of the rail traffic between the
East and the West. Specific infrastructure dedicated to freight includes
several railroad stations and marshalling yards working 24 hours a day.
This handles loads to and from Belgium as well as Germany, the Netherlands,
Luxemburg, France and Great Britain.
Permanent European quality control guarantees reliability and fast service.
As far as passengers are concerned, the high-speed train (TGV) already
connects the main railroad station to Paris and London.
Connection to Cologne in Germany will be completed within two years.
This will readily put Liege in direct contact with all major European cities.
- WATERWAYS : the third busiest inland port in Europe
Liege port facilities on the river Meuse are integrated into the European
network for large cargo ship activity, which is the densest in the world.
It can be used by ships of a capacity up to 3,000 tons, coasters and barge
convoys up to 9,000 tons, when the final work on Albert canal is completed.
With these features, Liege has been able to establish regular connections
with Great Britain, the Mediterranean, Scandinavia, St-Petersburg, Berlin,
Poland, Spain, Italy, Switzerland and the Danube basin.
Liege is the third busiest inland port in Europe, just behind Duisburg
and Paris. This makes it a real backdoor port for the giant sea ports of
the Atlantic façade and the North Sea. In addition, its covered dock
with a warehouse of over 100,000 sq.ft. - the second largest in Europe -
is itself a multimodal platform offering a large range of services such as
customs, logistics, technical facilities and administration.
- Value-added services
Numerous companies already specialize in logistics and have gained
experience in distribution, because they are firmly based on a long
transportation tradition. They can provide reception of goods, warehousing,
computerized stock management with on-line connection, invoicing, labelling,
tagging, orders management, packaging, repairs, quality control, and so on.
- What can you distribute from Liege ? Just anything ...
Anything you want, from light and fragile to heavy and bulky goods ;
from electronics and chemicals to raw and building materials ;
food commodities ... You can make up your own list.
Perishable goods are stored in the large refrigerating plants at the airport,
and a veterinary center is also available.
The port was designed with full facilities for the storage and handling of
steel products, building materials or coal, China clay, chemicals, containers
and general cargo. Furthermore it can host large indivisible loads
(roll on/roll off).
All necessary infrastructures and services were designed to guarantee the
rapid handling of goods.
- Legislation and incentives : cumulative benefits
Attractive fiscal legislation has been adopted in Belgium. It is essentially
based on a highly competitive 5% cost-plus tax regime valid with the
administration for 5 years, renewable thereafter.
In Liege, this favourable tax situation is coupled with a high level of
cumulative incentives from the Walloon Region and from the European Community.
Give a lift to your company performance!
