 In 2007, the University of Liege had 17516 students spread out in more than 50 disciplines. Its 500 research units work in collaboration with 600 companies worldwide, more particularly within its 8 poles of competences dedicated to biotechnologies, space, metal, electricity, transport, water, image and nutrition . Since 1980, the University of Liege has given birth to 85 spin-offs. It also proposes 180 postgraduate diplomas in a constant will to match the job market evolution. As from 2004, it will start a new MBA in life sciences in partnership with the University of Maastricht and the department of Business Administration of the University of Liege and the Institute for Advanced Commercial Studies of Liege will merge to start up a top-level Business School.
